چکیده

Diabetes mellitus is known as metabolic disorder related to glucose intolerance which is characterized by hyperglycemia. Diabetes mellitus can be treated by insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents. Most of known oral hypoglycemic are peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptors (PPAR) agonist. There are three different subtypes of PPARs are identified and they are involved in glucose metabolism. A balanced PPARs agonist is required to avoid consequences related to over activation of one of the receptor subtypes. PPAR agonist has a good influence on activation of PPAR due to their chirality, therefore this review discusses the advancement and role of chirality on PPAR activation by PPAR agonists.

The Renoprotective Actions of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors Agonists in Diabetes

Pharmaceutical agonists of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are widely used in the management of type 2 diabetes, chiefly as lipid-lowering agents and oral hypoglycaemic agents. Although most of the focus has been placed on their cardiovascular effects, both positive and negative, these agents also have significant renoprotective actions in the diabetic kidney. Over and above...

Regulation of Glial Cell Functions by PPAR-γ Natural and Synthetic Agonists

In the recent years, the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma), a well known target for type II diabetes treatment, has received an increasing attention for its therapeutic potential in inflammatory and degenerative brain disorders. PPAR-gamma agonists, which include naturally occurring compounds (such as long chain fatty acids and the cyclopentenone prostaglandin 15-deo...

Therapeutic roles of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor agonists.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) play key roles in the regulation of energy homeostasis and inflammation, and agonists of PPARalpha and -gamma are currently used therapeutically. Fibrates, first used in the 1970s for their lipid-modifying properties, were later shown to activate PPARalpha. These agents lower plasma triglycerides and VLDL particles and increase HDL cholesterol...

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors in Diabetic Nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy is a leading cause of end-stage renal disease, which is increasing in incidence worldwide, despite intensive treatment approaches such as glycemic and blood pressure control in patients with diabetes mellitus. New therapeutic strategies are needed to prevent the onset of diabetic nephropathy. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated nuclear t...

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors: Targets for the treatment of metabolic illnesses (Review).

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) belong to a family of transcription factors of which three isotypes, PPARα, PPARδ (β) and PPARγ, are known. These play a central role in regulating intermediate metabolism and in incidences of inflammation. In recent years, a greater understanding of their mechanisms of action and their effects, principally in the management of cardiovascular ...
